Transfer to Show Low, AZ

The beautiful Ponderosa pine forest that is now all burnt from the fire that was the second largest in Arizona history. It started on May 30th, the day before I was transferred to Show Low, AZ, which is about 50 miles west of Springerville/Eagar.

The next week the other set of Elders were evacuated and joined with us because of the heavy smoke and fire danger heading towards Eager and Springerville. Thankfully the fire barriers that they set up worked so it didn't destroy the towns.

Cheyene was baptized on Saturday June 11th.

We are keeping busy with lots of missionary work going on in Show Low.

Good News!!! I will get to go back to Springerville for Paul and Sandy's baptism on July 12th. And Kendrick, a 17 year old boy also from Springerville, now has permission from his mother to be baptized on July 2nd so I can be there! He was the first person I taught when I was transferred to Springerville.

What a privilege to be close enough to get to go back for both of them!

Can't believe my mission is about to come to an end as I leave to come home on July 20th.

Things are going great in Springerville.

We just had another branch added to our area.

Pie Town, New Mexico.

It is about an hour and a half away.

We are teaching some solid investigators and we should have a baptism soon!

Springerville is at an elevation of 8000' and is attractive to hunters,

which makes me feel right at home!

I am enjoying the missionary work here!

We had your Missionary sons over for Thanksgiving lunch today. What remarkable young sons you have here in Arizona. it was beautiful and sunny today and they wanted to show you the fruit on the trees and the flowers in full bloom as they know you are in knee deep snow.

However, Jason was the only one who would take the bull by the horns --and luckily it was only a small prick in the middle of a big bruise as proof!

Happenings in Chandler August to November

Jason hit his year mark in Chandler. He said it was crazy for him to think it has already been a year because it doesn't seem that long ago! Chandler is a lot different than Globe and is a very nice area of the mission. He covers 6 wards so that keeps them really busy. It was hot! hot! hot! Getting up to 115 degrees many days! In October it came back down to the 90's and now it is nice enough weather that they can go outside with out sweating!

One day they got caught in the hardest down pour that he has ever seen. They couldn't get into anyones house so they got drenched! Luckily it only lasted about half an hour. It felt much better than the 110 degrees before the storm!

Nikki was finally able to get baptised on November 6th! He was able to quit smoking which is a miracle-- as he is 80 years old and has smoked since he was 8!

Britney was also baptized on November 6th. She is 15 years old!

This Wednesday they had a missionary rodeo at the farm Jason lives at. Money was tied to some steers and chickens for the chase. They had a blast! It was a fun activity with the cooler weather being a welcome change from the heat!

Things have been good in Globe!

President and Sister Craig finished their 3 years as mission president and left for their home in Bountiful. President Howes is our new mission president and lives close by in North Salt Lake. They are both really awesome presidents!

It has been really hot but I am getting use to it!

I got to stay another transfer in Globe, so that makes over 6 months here, with a new companion Elder Vanerdose from Georgia.

Our pet tarantula only feels like a bee sting if it bites and the scorpion we caught at night using a black light as they glow in the dark!

On the 17th of August I was transferred to an area back by Gilbert! It is called Chandler and I am looking forward to meeting wonderful people there!

APRIL

Hey everybody,

Well I am still in Globe and Elder Owens and I are still companions. It will be nice because it 10 degres cooler up here than down in the valley.

Things are going well, we have a baptism on the 17th, so that is really good! We are still helping her and her husband to stop smoking. They have been doing really well at it. I just hope she doesn't smoke because it will have to be pushed back if she does. She has been doing really well at it so I don't have to worry too much. And everthing else is going well. It like 80's now but it feels nice so I'm not complaining.

We do tract in Globe because it's not like Gilbert where its 75% members. We try to find people other ways if we can but we tract if we have nothing else.

The baptism did go on Saturday and it was really good. A lot of her husbands family came down from Winslow, AZ. It's a small ranching town so the people that came down were big cowboys with their huge mustache and they all had their black wrangers with there cowboy boots and bolo ties; it was really funny. But anyways things are good. We are looking for more people to teach, like always, so that's fun. Mothers day is coming up so keep thinkin of those questions! I love ya all!

MAY

Things are going well down here it hit 90 degrees yesterday, so things are starting to warm up. We had a lesson with this guy that we were teaching a couple weeks ago and he just disappeared. Then he showed back up and he wants to be baptized so that was really cool.

Well so Jack had a cigarette so we have to push the baptism back but he still wants to be baptized. So we are planning to set up another date soon.

Another transfer and I am still in Globe with Elder Owens. That is good, it will make six months at the end of this transfer. But I really like it up here. We haven't put Jack on date yet but he has a set date for quiting smoking so that will be good. Oh yeah, you will like this, I gave a talk on Sunday. That makes 6 on my mission so far. I have spoken in all the wards that I have served in.

I enjoyed the pictures that you sent. Sam is getting pretty big now!

We got to go to the Mesa Temple this morning as a zone. We had to spend the night down there because we are an hour and a half away from anybody so that was fun. Well things haven't changed too much this last week we have started to teach one new lady who wants to get baptized. Her name is Dina. She just told her friend one day that see was going to church with her. And she came and really likes its so that was really cool. Last Sunday they broadcasted the Gila Valley Temple dedication so we got to watch that instead of church.

We still are working with Jack and are going to try to put him back on a baptism date this week when we meet with him again. So... Yeah that's what's happening here in Globe. It is getting a little hotter now but its not to bad yet. But anyways glad everything is going well back home. Oh yeah, Aaron and Emily look a lot older and Aaron looks bigger than John. I'm sure John loves that! Ha Ha. Well anyways love ya all!!

JUNE

Hey everybody,

Well things are going good down here. It is starting to heat up alittle bit outside, but not too bad yet, though it might be in a couple of weeks! Yesterday we had our last interveiw with President Craig. That was really cool, he plans on following up on all of us after our missions. The new mission president comes the first week of July. He is also from Bountiful and lives on Bountiful Boulevard. His name is President Howes. So maybe Grandpa or Gordon knows him.

Well nothing too new. We are working with the same people and they still want to get baptized we just have to work over some obstacles. Im sending a few pictures i hope you like the one of the lizard mom ha ha!

Hike to Picket Post 3-31-10

Hey everybody! Well things are good, this morning we just hiked up this huge mountain called Picket Post. It was really crazy-- really steep-- we had to climp up a few cliffs-- it was sweet! Here are some pictures. It's pretty funny they have a mail box on the top people say it takes 6 months for the letter to be sent. But anyways things have been good this week. We have a baptism on the 10th, so that will be good. I just hope I'm still be up here as transfers are next week.

Hey everybody,

Well, everything is good up here. I'm not as busy in Globe but it is alot different than Gillbert. In Gilbert my area had the highest conentration of members in the mission. The stake was about 3 or 4 square miles with like 10 wards in it. So missionary work is alot different than everywhere else. In Globe there are a lot of members, they are just all inactive so alot of the time we are doing reactivation and stuff, but it keeps us busy. I have also tracted some. Hey everybody,
Well thing have been good this week it rained and snowed this week. We got like 10in of rain in a couple of days then last Friday we woke up to about 6 in of snow. So that made it fun, But Globe is built on really steep hills so im glad our truck is 4x4. But anyways things are going good we hade a baptism last Sunday. It was a 9 year old girl and her 8 year old brother. Their parents were inactive and just started to come back to church as we were teaching their kids so it is really cool to see them become active.
Um... you, Mom, have to talk on Sunday, but i quess just talk about how much it has blessed my life and yours and how much it changes peoples lives. i guess you can figure it out, you know how to talk forever!

im still trying to figure out the area. It's kinda wierd going from a 1 square mile to a big area, but it's fun trying to figure out were i am at, but other than that things are good. Oh yeah i will have a new adress we are moving to a new appartment because the one we are in has a huge water leak. We caught like 10 gallons of water when it rained so that was fun but ill let you know when i know what it is.

Hey everybody! Well I'm in Globe now-- its a little mining town. It's kinda in the mountains but its still desert out side but it will be fun. It kinda reminds me of Urieka( dad should know were that is). But I do have a truck now so that is kinda cool. "We had the privilege of feeding your sons tonight on New Years Eve. They have a special spirit about them, and are clearly enjoying their missions.
Thank you for sharing them with us. We are lucky in that their mission President allows them to eat with the members. I feel that helps in knowing that your sons are getting at least one good meal a day, and in their finances. Our son is in Jacksonville, Florida, and his President does not allow them to eat with members, unless there is an investigator there.

I got a new companion, Elder Walser. he is fro the Seattle area and he's been out for about 10 months. We moved to a different apartment that is closer to our area so its a little different but it's been good. Today we had a baptism. It was a kid named Elijah, we have been waiting for a few weeks for him to get baptized. Its really cool, his friend Luish is baptizing him and he is from Mosanbic, Africa. He is really cool, he always goes with us to lessons and bears a powerful testimony. Oh yeah, I can't admit it but it's starting to get cold. It is about 40 degrees outside at night, and 60 degrees during the day.

Hey everybody,
Wow, that’s crazy that grandpa is engaged, well I guess it will be good for him. I did get the card and your pin thing was a little weird but I think I got it. This week has been good we went to the temple on Halloween night it was really good. The weather is really nice still but everybody else is cold. There wasn’t much happening this week, we are teaching a lot of people though. We have a baptism this week some time when ever the kid can pick a date that he can do it so that is good. Well hope every thing is going good back home, oh yeah tell Aaron to change the oil in my car I thinks it up. I can’t think of anything really that I need yet. Hey everybody, thanks for the treats, every body ate them so they were happy you sent them. That’s good that everybody is doing well and that the swine flu is on the down swing. Oh yeah it was good to hear from Robyn this week. Oh yeah tell Aaron it was a lucky shot haha just kidding, that’s good that he finally got one after 4 years of going.
Well this week has been good we just put someone on date this week she a 12 year old girl that lives with her grand parents, and has had the missionaries over for a couple of years but she didn’t like them that much but she likes me and elder Gibson a lot I guess I always help her with her math homework when I’m over there. I wish I could just do that type of math and not calculus. She came to sacrament meeting for the first time on Sunday because we had to talk. Oh yeah tell the bishop that I’ve already talked twice so that makes up the time I didn’t use back home. And everything else is going well down here the weather is still really good it, although it does get a little cold in the morning. Oh yeah mom if you could send me my monster jacket for the morning that would be nice and I cant think of any thing else well I got to go.

Hey everybody, Thanks for the package, the jerky was really good. Trapper emailed me and said he got his also. He was really thankful that you sent it. Well this week has been really busy we have been teaching a lot of people. We have 2 people that are getting baptized this Saturday one of them is a 12-year-old girl she is really funny she acts like she is 14 or 15 and she is really blunt to us but she likes us, which is lucky. The other one is a 17 kid who was almost baptized but his parent wouldn’t let him but now they will so that is really cool. Well sorry I’m not going into more detail but I have 3 minutes on the computer so I have to be short well ill let you guys know how it went next week have a happy Thanksgiving!

Hey everybody I’m glad you had a good thanksgiving. That’s weird about my car it did the same thing last year on the driver side the brake got rusted shut. Well any ways sis Dinsdale read me the email you sent me she said she would send the pictures some time this week and I have pictures I need. Our thanks giving was good we had a really good dinner than we were back out doing we do every day. Oh yeah transfers were today and I’m stay in the same area but my address is different I don’t know it yet but ill let you know when I find out what it is. I got a new companion he seems really cool so that will be good. That cool Aaron got to go back to dc that will be good for him. Well hey every body,

Well this week has been good it has been a little chilly it got down to 37 degrees last night so I did wear the jacket you sent me. Oh yeah and it dose rain in Arizona it rain all day on Monday so it made riding a bike suck. It only rains like 3 times a year. I did send you a letter with my new address on it so you probably got that today or yesterday.

Um we did have a baptism this last week it was kind of crazy the kid decided on Thursday night that he wanted to get baptized on Saturday so we had to throw every together and try to get everybody there it turned out good though. Um oh yeah my companion is Elder Walser he is from the Seattle area. He is a pretty cool kid. Oh yeah that is really cool that Aaron roommate wants a Book of Mormon tell good job on the missionary work. Oh yeah tell Emily happy birthday and I’ll send her gift with the Christmas gifts. So I sent a letter home with my address and some pictures like a week and a half ago I don’t know if you got or not but let me know if you did. Well I just wrote a letter than I accidently just deleted it so this one wont be as long. I did get the suit yesterday and its a little short on the arms and tight on the chest so I’ll have so see if it works. Jason called at 8 am Christmas morning. He sounded really good. Everyone got to talk to him, even Robyn and Blake on a 3-way call. One of the members there let him and his companion call on their cell phone. That was very thoughtful and generous of them. They didn’t really have a time limit but we knew of course Jason wouldn’t talk long, as you can tell from his letters. They are teaching 8 or 9 people right now. He is in charge of 3 wards and a singles ward. The less wealthy wards are more interested in helping with referrals for the missionaries, but they all like to feed them. Jason said that he hasn’t gained any weight. He ate dinner in a 5 million dollar home on Christmas Eve! There are so many kind and generous people watching out for the missionaries in Gilbert, which is so comforting for his mom!!

So far Jason has been safe on his bike. His companion flew over the handlebars once! And no dogs have chased them either. There area is one mile square so he knows it very well by now! They were going to be visiting their investigators on Christmas day so he was looking forward to that. He was also preparing a talk for Sunday’s Sacrament Meeting about the Savior!

Oct. 7th

Thats cool that there having a boy! is that what they wanted? but any ways it been really good this week. something crazy happened though this guy we were teaching tried to jump of a bridged an kill himself and he called us when he was on the bridge and we heard the cops trying to talk to him, oh yeah he didn't jump. so yeah that was a wierd night. he caused the freeway to shut down 12 lanes of traffic so it was backed up for a couple miles. so the weather is really nice now its in the 80 in the day and 50 in the night. well i cant think of anything else

hey every body,
Well this week has'nt been as crazy. oh yeah to fill you in on the story the guy didnt jump, the cop talked him out of it. it was crazy he called us when the cops were talking to him and we heard about 15 minutes of it. and we were with a diferent cop about half a mile down the road and they wanted us to stay there in case they needed us or something so yeah it was weird. oh yeah we haven't had any doors slammed in our face, ive only knocked on like 10 doors. we dont have to do that alot in arizona most of the people we find are member referrals so it makes it easy for us. And everbody is sick down here. we give alot of blessing and we have alot of hand sanitizer with us. Well anyways, tell aaron im going to try to get an autograph of that red socks pitcher his name is bruce hurst. well got to go love ya

hey, well i didnt get transfered so im stay in gilbert. which is nice and i still have elder gibson as my companion. there are alot of people who are sick down here my comp. was sick last week too he was about ready to fall over but he is better now so thats good. i hope the rest of you guys dont get it. oh yeah i havent got bruce hurst autograph yet. well every thing is going good over here it still feels really good out side. and we had another babtism last saturday it was a girl that was 18 and going to our singles ward for almost a month with out us knowing. and she wanted to be baptised the first time we talked to her so that was cool. well anyways i think thats about all i have so ill talk to you later.

Oct.28th

hey everbody, well im still not sick, so thats good. Everybody is still getting sick down here though. thats cool there is snow on the ground up there. today has been the coldest day so far that i have been out, its like 60 somehing and everybody here is freezing its kinda funny everybody's wearing jackets and coats. I think it feels really good personally.

Well everything is going really good we have another baptism set up for the 7th of next month. its this 16 year old kid that has wanted to be baptised for awhile but his dad wouldnt let him, but his dad will let him now so thats good. oh something crazy happend this week we were eating dinner with this family on sunday and they are related to the gunnels in mount sterling, and he is from bountiful and remembers playing with duane or somebody as a kid. he said they played baseball together and shot birds all the time. he moved when he was like 12 he said i cant remember his first name but his last name is gunnel so that was really cool. well that pretty much all i have for this week so ill talk to ya later
